Hello Again!

Long time, no post! Clearly, I have been very dedicated to all of my resolutions! I’ll be the first to admit that I have slacked off quite a bit with my posting, but the good news is that I have been successful (for the most part) in holding myself to my other new year promises. This year has been filled with a lot of happiness, excitement, change, good food, great literature, even better music, and more fashion thus far. Although it appears I’ve neglected to share with my readers (whom I appreciate very much!), I have been keeping up to date with the ever evolving fashion world. It’s said that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. In many cases, this expression tends to embody negative connotation. However, as Spring 2016 trends begin to expose themselves, it appears, in my opinion, that in this case history repeating itself isn’t such a bad things after all! For all of you readers whose parents, or whom themselves, are from the twentieth century, you are familiar with Adidas sneakers. Well, it’s time to pull them back out of their boxes, and blow the dust away, because they are in fact making a popular come back; I must admit that I hardly wear any other shoe now a days. Jean jackets, plaid skirts, furry shirts, and “scrunchies” are in the midst of being revived as well. It would seem that the 90’s are being born again. I look to one of my all time favorite movies, Clueless, and its protagonist Cher, for inspiration on how to be apart of this fashion movement– or should I say fashion regression?

I’ve always been the kind of girl who would pick earrings and mascara in the case that I could only chose one type of jewelry and one type of makeup to wear for the rest of my life. Recently, I have found myself being drawn to wearing more jewelry and experimenting with different styles. Initially I was hesitant to attempt the choker look, but after branching out of my comfort zone, I found that I really do prefer the tighter necklaces– they make everything more dressed up. Usually I will pair a choker with a longer necklace to create some contrast. Earrings are still my go to jewelry, but rather than sticking to the plain studs I usually wear, I catch myself in hoops rather often. Bracelets and rings are also great accessories if you know where to find them. On a day to day basis, I wear earrings, necklaces (always two or more), and a series of bracelets on either wrist. Rings have become trendy and popular, but as a writer, it’s difficult to work with them on my fingers. Sunglasses have also become one of my bigger interests as of late. H&M carries multiple styles, colors, and inexpensive sunglasses that are super cute and fun; but, if you’re like me, the best part about their sunglasses is that they’re easy and cheap to replace!

So far, spring is looking like it will be filled with lots of Adidas, jewelry, sunglasses, and sunshine! Ballet flats are also a cute, easy shoe that look much better than flips flops but are just as easy to put on. White jeans are a great essential to have for the season, especially if you live in California, and blazers/ light coats are necessary too. Let’s not forget it’s prom season, so keep your eyes open for unique, stylish, yet classy dresses!

P.S. With Spring Break around the corner, I will get a vacation from the craziness and time consumption of school; therefore, I will be able to get online and write more soon! Also, if you are in the Bay Area, or visiting for your Spring Break, I highly recommend making a trip to the de Young Museum and taking a spin through the Oscar de la Renta exhibit in San Francisco. Also, excuse the multitudes of snapchat filters in my images!

Deal or No Deal

Today I managed to venture away from online shopping and into the real world of fashion. I concentrated mainly on finding cute shirts rather than pants, because when it comes to bottoms you really only need a few things: a good pair of leggings, black/white jeans, regular denim jeans, and shorts. Nordstrom is currently in their annual sale and I was able to make a great buy for only $10.95 on a shirt that was originally $38! After this I headed into H&M which is currently in the middle of a great sale as well. Here I bought two high cut t-shirts, one purple and one white, for a total of $10 because it was a 2 for 10 deal. I also purchased a low cut long sleeve white tee for 12.95 and an adorable off-white blazer on sale for $30. At Brandy Melville I purchased a faun (type of gray) romper with a high rise neck and synch waist for $28. Lastly I made a stop in Urban Outfitters and found myself buying two new adorable braletts for $16 each, less than half the price of the Free People ones; this was a great deal!!!! Today was a very successful shopping trip for me, and these deals should still be lasting for the next few days to weeks.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall What are the Greatest Makeups of Them All?

I can not stress to you how much I adore makeup. It truly is a God sent gift. If you’ve never noticed what just a little bit of mascara can do for a gal, I’m here to tell you. It’s fair to say that I have been wearing makeup since the seventh grade (although I started practicing on my little sister and her friends when I was in fifth grade, these were the days of wanting to be a makeup artist). Yes, it’s true you are beautiful just the way you are, but there’s no harm in touching yourself up a bit and emphasizing your strong suits. For me, I have large blue eyes that look stunning with some black around them which is why mascara is my favorite makeup and what i rarely leave the house without. Believe it or not though, it really is difficult to find a flattering mascara; so when I discovered Maybelline “The Fallsies Volume Express Flared” mascara at CVS for $7.99 I was thrilled and haven’t used anything else since. Foundation is also a key product, but you have to find just the right one that doesn’t look too soupy and gloupy or too caky and fake because their is nothing more stunning than clear, smooth, and soft skin. With the combination of Giorgio Armani “Luminous Skin Foundation” and Clinique moisturizer (both can be bought at Nordstrom) my skin glows just about everyday. Not everyone can be blessed with clear, baby bottom skin. Another one of my favorite products is the Naked 2 Urban Decay eyeshadow pallet (Sephora). The colors are beautiful and earthy but also make for a great eye look on a night out; my personal favorites are “YDK” and “. Every eye color has a that one shade that makes them pop, for blue eyes it’s bronze/copper and gold; greens look best with browns and brown eyes pop with blue and purple tones. Not everyday has to decked out, dolled up but you should also put in a little effort, statistics show that if you feel like you look good ladies, you will perform better in school, sports, and pretty much anything. So if you’re having a bad morning or just feeling lazy pull out your eye lash curler (it helps to put a blow dryer on it, just like you use a hot curling iron on your hair) and your eyebrow brush for a little extra volume, and you’re set to go. It is also crucial to have a nice powder to pull your facial complexion together. Without this you can be left with uneven skin tones and a caked on look. YOU DO NOT WANT THIS! Blush also pulls your look together, it’s the belt of your makeup, not always essential but it makes the outfit look sharp and pulled together. For blush and powder I recommend Chanel, you can find both these products at Nordstrom.
