Hello Again!

Long time, no post! Clearly, I have been very dedicated to all of my resolutions! I’ll be the first to admit that I have slacked off quite a bit with my posting, but the good news is that I have been successful (for the most part) in holding myself to my other new year promises. This year has been filled with a lot of happiness, excitement, change, good food, great literature, even better music, and more fashion thus far. Although it appears I’ve neglected to share with my readers (whom I appreciate very much!), I have been keeping up to date with the ever evolving fashion world. It’s said that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. In many cases, this expression tends to embody negative connotation. However, as Spring 2016 trends begin to expose themselves, it appears, in my opinion, that in this case history repeating itself isn’t such a bad things after all! For all of you readers whose parents, or whom themselves, are from the twentieth century, you are familiar with Adidas sneakers. Well, it’s time to pull them back out of their boxes, and blow the dust away, because they are in fact making a popular come back; I must admit that I hardly wear any other shoe now a days. Jean jackets, plaid skirts, furry shirts, and “scrunchies” are in the midst of being revived as well. It would seem that the 90’s are being born again. I look to one of my all time favorite movies, Clueless, and its protagonist Cher, for inspiration on how to be apart of this fashion movement– or should I say fashion regression?

I’ve always been the kind of girl who would pick earrings and mascara in the case that I could only chose one type of jewelry and one type of makeup to wear for the rest of my life. Recently, I have found myself being drawn to wearing more jewelry and experimenting with different styles. Initially I was hesitant to attempt the choker look, but after branching out of my comfort zone, I found that I really do prefer the tighter necklaces– they make everything more dressed up. Usually I will pair a choker with a longer necklace to create some contrast. Earrings are still my go to jewelry, but rather than sticking to the plain studs I usually wear, I catch myself in hoops rather often. Bracelets and rings are also great accessories if you know where to find them. On a day to day basis, I wear earrings, necklaces (always two or more), and a series of bracelets on either wrist. Rings have become trendy and popular, but as a writer, it’s difficult to work with them on my fingers. Sunglasses have also become one of my bigger interests as of late. H&M carries multiple styles, colors, and inexpensive sunglasses that are super cute and fun; but, if you’re like me, the best part about their sunglasses is that they’re easy and cheap to replace!

So far, spring is looking like it will be filled with lots of Adidas, jewelry, sunglasses, and sunshine! Ballet flats are also a cute, easy shoe that look much better than flips flops but are just as easy to put on. White jeans are a great essential to have for the season, especially if you live in California, and blazers/ light coats are necessary too. Let’s not forget it’s prom season, so keep your eyes open for unique, stylish, yet classy dresses!

P.S. With Spring Break around the corner, I will get a vacation from the craziness and time consumption of school; therefore, I will be able to get online and write more soon! Also, if you are in the Bay Area, or visiting for your Spring Break, I highly recommend making a trip to the de Young Museum and taking a spin through the Oscar de la Renta exhibit in San Francisco. Also, excuse the multitudes of snapchat filters in my images!

Resolutions

With a new year, comes new promises. Each year we as humans resolve to be kinder, get better grades, start trying harder, get in better shape, find love, etc. Yet, rarely any of us achieve these goals. In other cases we work hard for about a month or so, but after that it becomes too much of a commitment and we fall back into the same patterns and routines we’ve been in for years. I, for one, am truly looking forward to what this year brings. While my promises to myself and the new year tend to stay the same, I have a few changes this year. In 2016 I want to spend more time learning who I am, and helping others become who they are as well.

When we think of art, our minds typically jump straight to paintings or poetry, but art can be anything that means something to you. Personally, writing helps me to sort out my problems and help me make better decisions. Not just my own writing, but others’ as well. There is nothing better than picking up a book you greatly relate to. Over my winter break I read a book called The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. This was an inspired story about the life of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley. Many people dream of fame and fortune, I’ll admit up until reading this book I did too, but I’ve realized that so long as you’re making yourself happy and living out your dreams there is no need for wealth and prosperity.

So, 2016 is going to be the year that dreams come true and I stop watching others live their lives while I wait for mine to start. Of course I’m still young and much of my life is oppressed under my parents thumbs, but there’s no reason why I can’t begin to set goals and make a plan for my future. In this new year, I resolve to dedicate more time to my blog which will now focus on LIFE STYLE rather than just being stylish. What good does it do to dress well and feel good on the outside, when many of us are suffering on the inside? Being healthy and happy is more than putting a smile on your face and convincing others of your pleasure. I want 2016 to be the year that we learn how to be alone and enjoy our own company. Just as it’s only the beginning of the year, it’s only the beginning of our lives. There is so much to anticipate and prepare for. I know for me I’m ready to leave high school and move on, but there’s also a lot to love about the point in life I’m currently at.

As young adults, we’re limited to school and curfews. But what we chose to do with our time between and after, is entirely up to us. Just because society doesn’t always encourage our interests doesn’t mean we need to put off pursuing our dreams. Who’s to say a sixteen year old can’t write and publish a book, or develop an idea that will become a Fortune Five Hundred company? Our generation has access to so much technology and so many successful people, we are the future and there’s no reason the future can’t begin now.

Good luck to my fellow dreamers and I wish you well in the New Year. Set goals and turn your dreams into reality: don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. Cheers to making 2016 the best one yet.

2015 was a very special year for me and I’m so grateful for all the lessons I learned and the friendships I made. Thanks to everyone who helped to make 2015 so memorable. Below are pictures of my favorite memories from the year (:

Friendly reminder

This is it guys! There’s still a little bit of time left to hop online and get not only 40% off the entire store, but free standard shipping. Abercrombie is great place to get basic needs like jeans and cute down jackets. I personally love the sweater dresses and regular sweaters they currently have on sale. You can never go wrong with Abercrombie, it’s a classic. I get all my jeans and most of my sweaters from here. Before, during, and after Abercrombie is a great place to shop for essential needs and luckily they have a lot of sales. Hurry on online now to treat yourself and your loved ones you need to shop for!!

Holiday Season

Sweater weather is just another way of saying holiday season. Thanksgiving has come and gone now it’s time to welcome Hannuaka, Christmas, New Years and many more. Not only is it time to go gift shopping and pick up your peppermint mochas, it’s time to pull out the sweaters and vests. While plaqued with the reputation of being ugly and uncomfortable, turtle necks are always a great go to. However, it’s hard to find a comfortable, cute, adorable sweater. Target and H&M are two examples of stores with easy access to turtle neck sweaters and shirts. Both stores also have great deals on all kinds of cozy sweaters to bring festivity and warmth to this holiday season. To add a little extra warmth, pair you favorite sweater with a vest. Be fearless and branch out to a fur vest!! My favorite buy of the season is my fur vest from target. Boots with boot socks are two fall favorites you can never go wrong with. TJ Maxx has a great selection of boot socks. Happy holidays to all!! Ps. Expect a gift shopping tip post soon!!

Blowing. Blowing. Dry!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to achieve a true salon grade blow out at home? Well for starters, it’s all about the shampoo and conditioner. Go for volumizing ones rather than damage repair/ moisturizing; they weigh your hair down making it harder to achieve a light look. Use a good quick dry spray, I recommend Blow Dry It quick dry primer spray by loreal, these actually help to dry your hair faster believe it or not. The longer you wait to dry your hair the better. Take some time to check your messages, feeds, and whatever else needs to be done. It’s easier to damage your hair if it’s still completely wet. A few little tips are to leave the bathroom once you’ve finished your shower and blow dry your hair in a different room because humidity causes your hair to frizz; use a round three to four inch boar-bristle brush to achieve luscious locks; and count to five while drying for a bouncier look. Once you’ve finished drying your hair, heat up the curling iron and put in a few curls then you’re set! Happy blow drying.

The Skirt Shirt

As seen now a days in Brandy Melville, flowy strapless shirts are officially coming into style. But why pay $28 for a shirt you pretty much already have? Now I’m sure you’re wondering, how do I have a shirt and not know about it? This is what I like to call the skirt to shirt. Take a Brandy Melville skirt (or any skirt that’s not too poofy and has a synch waist band) and follow the next few steps: 1) put on your favorite strapless bra 2) pull the skirt up to your chest where it fits comfortably 3) fold the synch waist band inside the shirt. This look is easy to achieve and looks super cute!! Wear you’re new recycled top with a pair of jeans, leggings, shorts, or pencil skirt. Just remember to never wear flow on flow, this looks good on no one! If you have any good ideas on how to convert different types of clothes, send me an email at paris6thomas@gmail.com and be credited for your new ideas. Happy wearing!

A’Cuppa Tea

What’s better than a milk tea with boba on a hot summer day? I’ll tell you, nothing. Today my mom sister and I headed to Berkeley to do some unique shopping. First we made a quick stop in A’Cuppa Tea (I recommend the mango green milk tea with boba it’s absolutely delicious), then we went for a quick spin through Jeremey’s. This is a great department store filled with unique clothes you’d really have to search around for elsewhere. They had beautiful blouses and sweaters and there was section after section of white products. You could say I was in heaven. Jeremy’s is a great place to go for dresses, especially for fancier events. In the upstairs department there are hundreds of options to chose from. I know where ill be buying my prom dress next year. Our second and last stop of the day was a store called Crossroads. It’s a unique boutique that specializes in trading and second hand. If you’re looking for something rare and an individual piece I suggest making the trip over. While second hand isn’t always ideal, you can get deals on designer brands (TJ Maxx is also great for these kinds of things). Also the clothes are super cute and you won’t have to worry about “accidental twinning” with someone else. As cute as that can be, when you’re proud of an outfit it’s no fun to see someone else wearing the exact same thing as you. Even if you don’t plan on buying anything or even going shopping, it’s always fun to branch out and look at new places.

Siena Annalise Thomas

My little sister Siena and I took a trip to Brandy Melville today to do some back to school shopping. She’s entering high school this year so she has asked for my help on what to wear. Siena absolutely stunning!!! She is an average height brunette with blue almond shaped eyes. While shopping with her I suggested she stay closer to the darker colors like navy and black, and red. Red is a great color for brunettes, especially darker shades of it. So if you’re a brunette go out and look for red clothing, I promise you you won’t regret it.  Middle part hair with the front pieces twisted back is a very flattering look for all hair colors and lengths.

Stick and Ball

Yesterday I attended a polo (or otherwise known as stick and ball) tournament in Petaluma, CA. The weather outside was warm but it was incredibly windy, this weather is only welcome for tanning in my opinion! Well, as traditions go, it’s expected to wear white to such events. As I’ve stated in previous posts, I have no trouble finding white in my closet. For the day portion of the tournament I wore a white lace Abercrombie dress and paired this with my favorite pair of cowboy boots (purchased at the H&H store in Oregon). However, as the sun went down and the temperature outside along with it; I traded in my girlish dress for a pair of tattered jeans, a tight white long sleeve tee, and a white denim jacket- and of course, the boots stayed. This outfit was perfect for both the charity polo event and the party attended afterwards. I truly believe every girl needs a good pair of old fashioned cowboy boots, you can never go wrong with them. And if your outfit is ever in need of being dressed up just a little bit, a nice belt of jacket is the perfect finishing touch.
